At sunset, you do kayaking or simply take a bamboo row boat to discover a water tunnel with many coral reefs in a scenic lagoon. The post-colonial capital city of Hanoi is a unique Asian city with tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, numerous lakes, pagodas and temples. This full day tour takes you around Hanoi s most interesting sights, including the Ho Chi Minh Complex, Ho Chi Minh s Mausoleum and his Stilt House, the Presidential Palace and the One Pillar Pagoda nearby. Also on the tour will be the Lake of the Restored Sword, Ngoc Son Temple, the Temple of Literature, and one of the city s museums, either the History Museum or the Ethnology Museum. Day 5: Ho Chi Minh City Tour - Cu Chi Tunnels (B, L)

8.00am Pick-up at your hotel, you enjoy a half day excursion to the famous Cu Chi tunnels. This network of tunnels, which stretched for over 200km, became legendary during the 1960s.

The Cu Chi tunnels played a vital part in the U.S.-Vietnam War in that they allowed the Viet Cong to control a large rural area only 30 to 40 km from former Saigon. At its height, the tunnel system stretched from Saigon to the Cambodian border. The network, parts of which were several levels deep, included innumerable trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centre and kitchens.

Today the remaining tunnels have become a major tourist attraction giving the visitor a unique experience and feel of what underground life during the war must have been like. The tunnels have been widened for our benefit (otherwise we would not be able to enter them!) For those interested there is even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range.

Lunch is arranged at the local restaurant.

Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is the biggest and most crowned city of Vietnam, warm year round and hospitable people. This afternoon we visit the bustling Ben Thanh Market - a fantastic place for bargains of every kind! There are several interesting sights in Saigon . The War Remnants Museum has a wealth of images from the wars, the most moving being a gallery entitled Requiem which is dedicated to Vietnamese and foreign journalists and photographers who perished during the French and American conflicts. The Reunification Palace was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until April 30, 1975 when the North Vietnamese tanks came crashing through the front gates, bringing the U.S.-Vietnam War to a dramatic end. Close to the Palace some of the best examples of French colonial architecture are represented in the forms of Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Notre Dame Cathedral was built between 1877 and 1883, and the stones used to create it were exported in its entirety from France. Next to the cathedral stands the Central Post Office, finished in 1891. It is another fine example of French architecture and is Vietnam s largest post office. For all of its French colonial history, Ho Chi Minh City is by far Vietnam s most modern city. It has numerous shopping malls, cinemas, discotheques and a bewildering number of bars. Return to hotel for free. Stay overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 6: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Can Tho (B, L)

You could walk around the village, visit the rice paddy, talk to local farmers or join their daily activities. One of the highlight points is try to be a farmer by doing real farming work such as bailing water into rice paddy with a four-stringed bucket which you have to balance a bucket of water by four strings or catch fish, crab for your own dinner!

Another interesting activity is ploughing and seeding vegetable.

You can oalso have chance to learn cooking simple local dishes with fresh ingredients collected in the garden or a small market nearby for their own dinner under the landlord’s instructions. After dinner, the landlord may need your help to make sticky rice cakes for breakfast and enjoy the traditional folk songs while enjoy some cups of rice wine.
